ATTRACTIONS IN NUWARA ELIYA

VICTORIA PARK

Amidst of residing in the close proximity to the city of Nuwara Eliya, the park is undoubtedly an ornithological hot spot to many species of endemic and migrant birds. The park is blessed to have attracted water from Nanu Oya which supports the entire park animals. Bird lovers could admire nature and the various birds for long hours with no distractions. Indian Blue Robin, Dull-Blue and Kashmir Fly Catchers and Plied Thrush are commonly visible bird breeds in the park.

HORTON PLAINS NATIONAL PARK

Located just 32 km away from the main city of Nuwara Eliya, the Horton Plains National Park is considered as a major tourist attraction site in the island. The park which originated in 1988 is a more interesting and an amazing place than many. This cloud forest with a spread of Montane grass throughout is home to many species, endemic to the region. The beautiful and gigantic Horton Plains act as the base of three headwaters to the island; Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe. The park also includes a favorite tourist attraction called “World’s End”.

GOLF CLUB

Established originally in the 19th century, the Golf Club stands in pride as one of the oldest clubs to the island. Gordon Highlander, who was a Scottish soldier, constructed the golf club in 1889 for British officials. The 18 hole golf course spreads over 100 acres and currently holds around 2000 members. Feel transported to Scottish Highlands as you play a hand of Golf at the club.

DEVON FALLS

Named after an English coffee planter, Devon falls, is 97 meters tall and is ranked as the 19th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Capture the waterfall to a distance which gives you a breathtaking view as it serves as a natural backdrop of nature amidst the tall trees and a weather so cold. Feel blessed to witness the wonders of nature as you wander in the central highlands.

ADAMS PEAK

Adams Peak is probably the most popular mountain with great value among both local and foreign tourists. The mountain which is 7362 feet tall is unbelievably sacred to three religions; Buddhism, Islam and Hindu. When Buddhists believe it’s the human foot of Lord Buddha, Muslims believe it’s the footprint of Adam standing for ages for his disobedience and Hindus believe it’s the footprint of God Shiva's creative dancing. The shadow of the peak from the sunrise produces the famous spectacle. The pilgrim season of the peak is from December to May every year. During that season visitors can capture many migrant butterflies of various breeds and beauty.

HAKGALA BOTANICAL GARDENS

Spreading over 28 acres, the garden offers around 10000 species of flora. With cool and fresh climate, visitors can walk around the park for hours with no tire. More than 500,000 visitors are being recorded annually. The gardens include varieties of flora out of which the rose garden stands all time popular. The captivating flower garden is designed with enthusiasm and creativity making it attractive than most. Capture your favorite plants and flowers that’d add fragrance to your memory lane.
