HIKKADUWA BEACH
Hikkaduwa beach is one place on earth which gives you the opportunity to put behind every burden and relax and unwind with style. The beach on the southern coast gives not only relaxation but a sense of admiration of nature and lets you wander about re-gaining mental strength. Hikkaduwa Beach holds parties occasionally during the season and lets you take part in various beach games and entertainments such as beach volleyball, scuba diving, snorkeling, board surfing, boat riding, coral reef viewing and many more.
BOARD SURFING
It is one of the most popular entertainments at Hikkaduwa. Enjoy a wave ride on boards which can be hired from the shore. Board surfing can be done with paddle boarding and bodyboarding with long or short boarding preferences according to experience.
CORAL SANCTUARY
Enjoy a ride around the sea on a glass bottomed boat for miles away that let you witness the gorgeous corals lying down. Staghorn Coral, Elkhorn Coral, Brain Coral and Table Coral are some commonly visible corals in the area of Hikkaduwa. The coral sanctuary stretches a hundred meters from offshore to a group of rocks in the north end. Divers could enjoy diving around the corals admiring them closely while others could enjoy a coral tour on boats with the glass bottom.
SCUBA DIVING AND SNORKELING
Hikkaduwa is one place where anyone could enjoy. The city also lets its visitors enjoy many water sports and especially scuba diving and snorkeling. HIKKADUWA NATIONAL PARK
Visit the National Park in Hikkaduwa which is one of the two marine national parks in Sri Lanka. The park is popular for containing a fringing coral reef. Located in the wet zone, the park was originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1979 and then in 1988. Some of the habitats of the wet zone of the park include Dugong, Sea Turtles, Prawns, Oyster, Shrimp, Crab, Sea Worm, Green Turtle, Olive Ridley and Blacktip Reef Shark.
TURTLE HATCHERY
Visit one of the most worthy cause of Hikkaduwa; Turtle Hatchery. The Turtle eggs which are laid on the shore unprotected are taken care of and treated at the Turtle Hatchery helping until the little Turtles hatch. Some Turtles are injured when found and thus are treated preparing for their hatch. It has been a challenge to the authorities to carry out this task as Turtle eggs and meat are consumed illegally.
